Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 27, 2026
Planr ("we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and share information when you use our mobile application ("Planr" or the "App").
1. Information We Collect
When you use Planr, we collect the following information:
- Account information: Your name, email address, and profile photo when you create an account.
- Trip data: Itineraries, activities, flights, accommodation, and expenses you create in the app.
- Shared financial data: When you record or split an expense within a trip, the amount, category, and who paid/owes are visible to the other members of that trip.
- Chat data: Messages, photos, and voice recordings you send in a trip's chat are visible to the other members of that trip and stored on our servers.
- Real-time location data: If you choose to share your live location during a trip, we collect and store your GPS coordinates for as long as sharing is active. This can be shared with trip members and, if you generate a share link, with anyone who has that link, until you stop sharing. You can turn this off at any time.
- Background location data (auto check-in): If enabled, the app monitors your location in the background during an active trip to automatically mark nearby planned activities as visited. This uses geofencing rather than continuous tracking, and only checks proximity to activities already in your itinerary.
- AI usage data: When you use the AI itinerary feature, your trip preferences (destination, interests, pace, budget, places to visit) are sent to Anthropic's Claude API to generate your itinerary. We track the number of AI trips you have generated to manage your plan limits.
- Subscription and payment data: Your subscription plan (Economy or First Class) is stored in our database. Payment processing is handled by Stripe (for web purchases) or Apple/Google (for in-app purchases). We do not store your credit card or payment details.
- Travel eSIM data: If you purchase a data eSIM through the app, we store the destination country, number of days, price, and the trip it's linked to. Payment is processed by Stripe. See Section 12 for details.
- Invite data: When you invite someone to a trip, we store their email address and the status of the invite.
- Usage data: How you interact with the app to improve our services.
- Device information: Device type, operating system, and app version for technical support.
2. Legal Basis for Processing
Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), we rely on the following legal bases to process your personal data:
- Performance of a contract: Account data, trip data, shared expenses, chat, and subscription/eSIM purchases, since these are necessary to provide the service you've signed up for.
- Consent: Real-time location sharing, background location for auto check-in, and push notifications — all of which you actively opt into and can withdraw at any time.
- Legitimate interest: Usage data and device information, which we use to maintain, secure, and improve the app, in a way that does not override your own rights and interests.
- Legal obligation: Where we're required to retain or disclose data to comply with the law.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide and improve the Planr service
- Sync your trips across devices and share them with your travel companions
- Send notifications about your trips (with your permission)
- Respond to your support requests
- Ensure the security of your account
4. Information Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We share your information only in the following cases:
- With your travel companions: When you invite someone to a trip, they can see the trip's content, including shared expenses and chat.
- Authorised Planr staff: A small number of authorised administrators can access account and trip data through an internal admin panel, for the purposes of customer support, fraud prevention, and legal compliance. All administrative access is logged.
- Firebase (Google): Used for authentication, data storage, and file storage. Data is stored in Europe (europe-west1).
- Anthropic (Claude AI): When you use the AI itinerary feature, your trip preferences are sent to Anthropic's API to generate the itinerary. Anthropic's privacy policy applies to this data. We do not send your name, email, or other personal information to Anthropic.
- Stripe: Used for processing web subscription payments and travel eSIM purchases. Stripe handles payment data securely and is PCI-DSS compliant. We do not store your card details.
- eSIM Access: When you purchase a travel eSIM, we send the destination country and data plan to eSIM Access, our data connectivity partner, so they can provision the eSIM. We do not send your name, email, or payment details to eSIM Access — only the order itself and a purchase reference number.
- RevenueCat: Used to manage in-app subscriptions on iOS and Android. RevenueCat receives your device identifier and subscription status.
- Legal requirements: When required by law or to protect our rights.
5. Data Storage
Your data is stored securely using Google Firebase, located in Europe (europe-west1). Your profile photo is stored as encrypted data within your user profile. Tickets and documents you upload are stored locally on your device and are not uploaded to our servers.
6. International Data Transfers
While your core account and trip data is stored in the EU (europe-west1), some of our service providers — Anthropic, Stripe, RevenueCat, and eSIM Access — are based outside the European Economic Area, principally in the United States. Where this happens, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission, or an equivalent safeguard offered by the provider, to ensure your data continues to receive a level of protection consistent with the GDPR.
7. Data Retention
We keep your personal data for as long as your account is active, plus a limited period afterwards where needed for legitimate business or legal purposes:
- Account deletion: When you delete your account, your personal data is removed from our active systems. Trips you own that include other members are handled as described in our Terms of Service.
- Financial records: Payment and eSIM purchase records are kept for as long as required by Portuguese tax and accounting law (typically up to 10 years), even after account deletion, as permitted under GDPR's legal obligation basis.
- Backups: Data may persist in encrypted backups for a limited period after deletion before being permanently purged.
8. Your Rights
Under the GDPR, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate data
- Delete your account and all associated data ("right to be forgotten")
- Export your data ("data portability")
- Object to our processing of your data based on legitimate interest
- Request that we restrict processing of your data in certain circumstances
- Withdraw consent at any time, for anything we process based on your consent (e.g. location sharing, notifications), without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal
You can delete your account directly in the app under Profile → Edit Profile → Delete Account. This permanently removes all your data from our servers, subject to Section 7 above. For any other request, contact us at support@getplanr.app.
If you believe we have not handled your personal data in accordance with the law, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority. In Portugal, this is the Comissão Nacional de Proteção de Dados (CNPD).
9. Sign in with Google
If you choose to sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo from Google. We do not receive your Google password or access to other Google services.
10. Push Notifications
We send push notifications to remind you about upcoming trips and flight check-ins. You can disable notifications at any time in the app settings or your device settings.
11. Subscriptions and Billing
Planr offers a free Economy plan and a paid First Class plan. The First Class plan provides unlimited AI itinerary generation.
- Free trial: All users receive one free AI-generated itinerary under the Economy plan.
- First Class: Available at €1.99/month or €12/year. Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled.
- iOS/Android: Subscriptions are managed through the App Store or Google Play. Cancellation must be done through the respective store's subscription settings.
- Web: Subscriptions are managed through Stripe. You can manage or cancel your subscription through the Stripe customer portal accessible in your profile.
- Refunds: Refunds are subject to the policies of Apple, Google, or Stripe depending on where you subscribed.
12. Travel eSIM
Planr lets you purchase a mobile data eSIM for your trip destination directly in the app. This is a real telecommunications product, provided in partnership with eSIM Access, not something Planr operates itself. When you buy an eSIM:
- We share the destination country, data plan, and a purchase reference number with eSIM Access to provision the eSIM — not your name, email, or payment details.
- Payment is processed by Stripe, the same as our other payments. We do not store your card details.
- The eSIM's data speed, coverage, and validity period are set by eSIM Access and their underlying network partners, not by Planr.
13. Children's Privacy
Planr is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.
14. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the date at the top of this policy and, where appropriate, through the app.
15. Contact Us
